Announces Full Orchestra Dates for 2022-2023 Season
Signature Symphony at TCC embarks on a series of new beginnings for the 2022-2023 season having completed a nationwide search for a new artistic director. The 65-piece orchestra is comprised of professional musicians throughout the Tulsa area. Coming back into a new realm of live music from the global pandemic, Artistic Director Scott Seaton and the orchestra are working to redefine what it means to be a 21st-century orchestra.
“I am ecstatic to share the wondrous world of live music and to help shape Tulsa’s musical and cultural landscape with the incredible Signature Symphony at TCC,” says Scott Seaton, Signature Symphony artistic director. “Not only should Signature Symphony be a musical conduit for the community we live in, but also reflect the changing world around us and shape the future of live orchestral music.”
Under the theme “New Beginnings,” Seaton has planned a season focused on the power of live music and programming designed to cater to a community of incredibly diverse musical tastes. The 2022-2023 season kicks off Saturday, October 1, with “Rachmaninoff and the Dance Floor,” featuring acclaimed pianist Charlie Albright, who has been praised by the New York Times for his “jaw-dropping technique” and “virtuosity with a distinctive musicality.” “Legends and Swans” will feature violinist Andrew Sords, who has been described by Cleveland Classical as a violinist with “…total command of technique, consummate musicianship, and bravura…” on February 25, 2023.
Signature Symphony will present the annual family favorite “Christmas in Tulsa” featuring Tulsa Opera Signature Chorale on Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17. This season also marks the return of the Tulsa Sings! vocal talent competition after a two-year hiatus. The Tulsa Sings! competition is open to any vocalist or singer with ties to Tulsa to compete for the opportunity to perform on stage during the final concert of the 2022-2023 season. The Tulsa Sings! finalists will join Scott Coulter, a Broadway vocalist on Saturday, April 8, 2023, to perform “Tulsa Sings! American Jukebox.”
“Drawing upon fun and impactful musical experiences as well as deeper connections to the vast symphonic world, I wanted to bring you concerts to show the incredible interconnectivity of it all. We will feature world-class guest artists this season as well as local collaborations within Tulsa,” says Seaton.
Tulsa Sings! auditions open on August 2, 2022, at 8 a.m. To enter the competition, you can submit a video, no more than three minutes in length, or provide a link to your performance on a platform such as YouTube or Vimeo on the entry form.
