Go back in time when passwords were your ticket into a club and raids were common, as you step into Overture: A Speakeasy Experience. The annual gala takes us to the Roaring 20’s during prohibition and the time of bootleggers and flappers. The event, hosted by Signature Symphony at TCC and the TCC Foundation, continues with the concert season’s theme featuring Tulsa connections to food and music.
Overture, with presenting sponsors TTCU Federal Credit Union and Cox Communications, is Saturday, March 3 at the Bond Event Center in downtown Tulsa. The reception begins at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program at 7 p.m.
This fundraiser supports and strengthens Signature Symphony at TCC’s music education and community outreach programs from birth to adult. Each year Signature Symphony exposes more than 4,000 students to Classical music to foster a love of music and works with children in early learning centers throughout the Tulsa area as part of the Signature Quartet’s Seedling Symphony program.
“Music education readies children for learning by helping develop their basic mental skills and capabilities,” said Marcia MacLeod, Overture honorary chair. “With limited school funding, private funding of music education has become a necessity and it is the reason why I am involved with Signature Symphony’s annual gala, Overture.”
Overture: A Speakeasy Experience transports you with dinner and libations to a prohibition era atmosphere as you enjoy music from the 1920’s featuring Tulsa’s own musicians. As you enter, stop and pose with a rare 1929 Durant Roadster Model 40 produced by Durant Motor Company. In addition to a menu filled with delectable cuisine from the 1920’s and drinks, there will be a live auction, silent auction and wine pull.
Marcia MacLeod serves as the honorary chair and Marcia Brueggenjohann serves as the Overture event chair. In addition, Dr. Carol Messer is the sponsor committee chair and Cathy Campbell is the auction committee chair. The Overture committee members are Susan Harris, Jerry Hoopert, Katie Johnson, Kim Kunnemann, Erica Parker, Delia Pierson, Jane Primeaux, Kate Robertson, David Wagner, Jacqueline Wilson and Dean VanTrease.
