Call for Artists: Pictures Reimagined

Prepare for a dazzling spectacle of sight and sound as Perpetual Motion Dance joins the Signature Symphony for jaw-dropping feats by Oklahoma’s finest aerial flyers and dancers. The second half will showcase Modest Mussorgsky’s epic Pictures at an Exhibition, which musically represents different works of art and will be presented here with a unique Tulsa twist, artwork reimagined by local artists. Signature Symphony seeks artwork inspired by Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition or by one of the movements from the piece to be displayed in conjunction with the musical performance. Works will be displayed during the playing of Pictures at an Exhibition portion of the concert , as well as in a during a reception. All 2d and 3d mediums, styles, and interpretations welcome, excluding video and AI generated artworks.

Artworks should not exceed 50 lbs or be larger than 4 ft long or 4 ft wide in any direction.

All artwork must be self-contained and not include dangerous elements such as fire, sharp objects, or loud sound.

Compensation

Each artist selected for the exhibition will be paid a $150 honorarium after the artwork is delivered. Collaborative works created by more than one artist will receive only one honorarium. Artists will not receive multiple honoraria if multiple works are accepted. Artists must be legally eligible to work in the United States and have a U.S. mailing address to receive the honorarium. TCC students and employees are eligible for the honorarium. Additional compensation may be awarded for promotion of the show and auction. Promotion details will be announced soon.

Two complimentary concert tickets will also be awarded to each exhibited artist for the Pictures Reimagined Signature Symphony concert at the VanTrease PACE on January 25, 2025.

Considerations

Artwork must arrive ready to hang/display. Framing is not required. Please consider how the artwork will be safely exhibited, considering that no holes can be nailed or drilled into the walls or floor of the exhibition space. Work will be displayed on easels, on podiums, or placed directly on the floor as appropriate. Artists may also build/create their own display solution. All art exhibitions are deemed at the artist’s own risk.

An online exhibition agreement must be e-signed and W-9 completed prior to delivery of the artwork. All artwork must be delivered directly to the VanTrease PACE in Tulsa. Artists may also ship work at their own expense, including a pre-paid return shipping label. Art must be delivered to the VanTrease PACE between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on December 10, 2024 or Wednesday Dececember 11, 2024. Please arrange a time in advance.
