The Signature Symphony at TCC begins its 2023-24 season Sept. 30 with “Bluegrass to Bohemia”, featuring one of the country’s most dynamic young violinists, Tessa Lark.
Lark will perform “Sky”, written by Michael Torke, which blends the world of bluegrass and bohemia with an orchestral soundscape, and earned Lark a GRAMMY nomination in 2020. Countryside inspiration ties this concert together and Antonin Dvořák’s “Symphony No. 8” closes the evening with folk-inspired melodies and exuberant energy.
Lark is a rising classical music sensation and highly acclaimed fiddler. She’s received several honors since making her concerto debut at just 16 years old, including the Hunt Family Award from the Lincoln Center’s prestigious Emerging Artist Awards.
“Tessa partnered with Michael Torke and they created a concerto that fuses the realm of bluegrass with minimalist orchestral music, music that has a groove,” said Signature Symphony Artistic Director Scott Seaton. “The concert is not just a representation of countryside and folksy elements, but it has a fun, toe-tapping element augmented by more than 65 musicians on stage. New concertgoers will especially find familiarity with the opening sounds by Franz Liszt and his ‘Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2’, which has been featured in countless cartoons over the decades.”
Attendees will enjoy this feel-good concert filled with down-home music and nature inspirations. Commemorate the change to autumn with “Bluegrass to Bohemia” to kick off the Signature Symphony season.
Lark and the Signature Symphony will perform Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the TCC VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education. Tickets are priced from $39-$79.
