2019-2020 Tulsa Sings! Competition

Grand Prize Winner Announced

Chiara Miller is the Tulsa Sings! Grand Prize Winner for 2020. Miller, a student at Northeastern State University, was named the winner of the vocal competition in the live streamed concert, which was postponed from April 2020 due to the pandemic. Miller stepped out of her comfort zone to perform singing the character piece, “I Cain’t Say No.” As the grand prize winner, Miller will be featured in a Signature Symphony concert for the 2020-2021 season.

The other Tulsa Sings! 2020 finalists included Blakely Family Trio – Doug and Blakely and Charlotte Couch, Reese Buchert, Doug Demaree, Mike Pryor, James Ross, and Emily Thresher. In addition to Miller being named the grand prize winner, the audience got to select an Audience Favorite. James Ross, Tulsa doctor with classical training in violin and vocal performance wowed the virtual audience with his own arrangement of “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” while playing the guitar.

Finalists

Reese Buchert

Buchert, a Jenks High School junior, is a member of the Trojanaire Vocal Music Show Choir and has performed with local theatre companies and Tulsa Opera.

Doug Demaree

Demaree is a music leader and vocalist in his church and has been involved in Tulsa’s long running holiday tradition, “A Christmas Carol” musical.

Chiara Miller

Miller, a recent Fort Gibson High School graduate, now a student at Northeastern State University, was a member of the Tulsa Theatre Young Artist Program and a 2019 Discovery Award finalist.

Mike Pryor

Pryor is a long-time Tulsan and Jenks High School graduate and was an original member of Tulsa’s own Forever Plaid.

James Ross

Ross began his medical career more than 20 year ago but his music interest started at a young age with classical training in violin and vocal performance.

Emily Thresher

Thresher, a recent Jenks graduate now attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, was a member of the Trojanaire Vocal Music Show Choir and a 2018 Tulsa Sings! finalist.

Blakely Family Trio

The Blakely Family trio consists of a father, mother and son. All have classical vocal training. The mother, Charlotte Couch, performs as a bassoonist for Signature Symphony at TCC. The father, Doug, and son, Connor have community theater and vocal performance experience.
