Set your radio dial and tune in for an evening of Big Band and swing as we celebrate the golden age of American radio. “Overture: On Air in the Golden Age of Radio,” the annual gala, takes us to the 1940’s, a time when radio grew into the fabric of daily life.
Hosted by Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College and the TCC Foundation, “Overture: On Air in the Golden Age of Radio” is Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the River Spirit Event Center. A reception begins at 6 p.m. with dinner and program at 7 p.m. This year’s presenting sponsors are TTCU Federal Credit Union and River Spirit Casino Resort.
“We will step back to the 1940’s, a time of sophisticated fashion and glamorous films, of USO tours and the sounds of big bands, led by the likes of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey,” said David Wagner, 2019 Overture committee chair. “This evening also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Signature Symphony at TCC.”
As Signature Symphony at TCC celebrates its four decades of entertaining Tulsa audiences, this fundraiser helps support quality arts entertainment in Tulsa and strengthens Signature Symphony’s music education and community outreach programs. Each year Signature Symphony exposes more than 4,000 students to Classical music to foster a love of music and works with children in early learning centers throughout the Tulsa area as part of the Signature Quartet’s Seedling Symphony program.
Come dressed in 1940’s period attire as you roll back the clock and take part in an old-time radio broadcast. The evening will be complete with Big Band and swing dancing. You will enjoy the “Signature Swingtet” during the cocktail hour and a special performance by the “Andrés Sisters” and the Signature Quartet during dinner. Then following the live auction, it is time to hit the dance floor with music by Tulsa’s “Zoots,” featuring Signature Symphony Advisory Board members Andrew Ralston, bass and vocals by Cynthia Simmons Taylor. Guests will also be able to participate in a silent auction and raffle.
TTCU Federal Credit Union and River Spirit Casino Resort are Broadcaster sponsors. Executive Producer sponsors are John & Mary Ann Bumgarner, Langdon Publishing, Ron & Susie Looney, and Security Bank.
