The coming of the new millennium was shrouded in technological anxiety, but that was silenced in Australia by Ross Edwards’ era-bringing composition Dawn Mantras (U.S. premiere) as it was performed and televised around the world. It embodied the fresh breath of regeneration and hope, and it continues to do so through each performance.
Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 is a compilation of prolonged efforts which lingered throughout his development from novice to master. Mahler’s revision process bridged a decade, and his determination spanned years and continents, but it culminated in a career-defining
work that is thrilling from start to finish.
The Tulsa Youth Opera and the Signature Chorale will accompany tonight’s show as we feel the hope that can only be found in the pursuit of music.
